Frequently Asked Questions
Gateway Installation
What tools will I need to install the Gateway?
The only tool you’ll need is a Phillip’s Screwdriver. Though you won’t need them, you may also want to use a stud finder to locate the studs, a level, pencil and possibly a ladder. Depending on how close to the outlet you are, you may need an extension cord.
How will I know the Gateway is communicating properly with the cloud and I’m ready to install Nodes?
The Charge LED will light, then the Power LED. Wait five (5) minutes, then contact the Install Support Team. They will confirm the Gateway is operating and communicating properly.
How quickly will I see information on the Dashboard?
Once you begin installing the Nodes. The Dashboard refreshes about every five minutes so there may be a small delay between installing a Node and data beginning to populate the Dashboard.
The Gateway operates on 110v, what happens if I have a power failure?
The Gateway is equipped with a battery back-up system which automatically switches on whenever there is an interruption of power. Once the power is restored, the Gateway automatically switches back to 110v and the battery begins to recharge.
How long will the battery charge last?
On average the battery will operate the Gateway for up to six hours. This is enough time for the Gateway to safely power down until power is restored.

Node Installation
Does it matter which Node I install on the toilet?
Yes! Each Node is pre-assigned to a specific toilet so when there’s a problem with that toilet, it’s identified properly on the Dashboard. Always double check the information on the protective sleeve matches the serial number on the Node and the toilet location. Be especially careful when an apartment/room has more than one toilet, each is separately identified.
Is the pattern the LEDs flash important?
Yes, especially during installation. The flash pattern will tell you if the Node is in communication with the Gateway. You are looking for: a long Green – quick Red/Green/Blue – steady Blue flash pattern. If you have a Red/Green - Red/Green pattern, then Node is not communicating with the Gateway. (See the Node Installation video above for reference)
What should I do after installing the Node in the tank?
Simply put the lid back on the toilet, replace any items that were on the toilet lid, then flush the toilet and leave the bathroom. Everything else is automatic.
What should I do if a ballcock is being used in the toilet?
Before installing the Node replace the ballcock. Often times when a ballcock is being used there’s not enough room in the tank to place the Node correctly. We recommend using a Fluid Master 400 series fill valve.
What happens if I accidently scrape the sensor wire against the inside of the tank?
We understand some installs have very little room to place the unit inside the tank. If the sensors are scraped, complete the installation and check with the Install Support Team to confirm if any damage was done to the sensors. If the sensor is damaged, the Install Support Team will give you instructions how to send the Node back for repairs.
Resetting the Node
Does it matter if I reset the Node while it’s in the tank?
Yes, it does. If the Node is reset while it’s still in the tank it senses it is still in the water and will try to communicate with the Gateway. It will not go into sleep mode and will continue transmitting.
Do I have to use the Reset Tool?
No, you can use any magnet as long as it is strong enough to reset the Node. You will know the magnet worked if the LED flashes within two seconds of resetting the Node.
Can’t I just set the Node aside while working on the toilet, then put it back in the tank without resetting it?
Unfortunately, you should not just set the Node aside. If you pull the Node for repairs and simply set it aside, the software will interpret this as a running toilet, send a text notification, and the event will appear on the Dashboard as a running toilet.

I put the wand on the right side of the Node (the short side without the antenna) and it flashed, did that reset the Node?
This action did not reset the Node. The switch on the right side is used by our engineers. Don’t worry though, just to place the magnet on the left side (the short side with the antenna) to reset the Node.
